Mackay's Southern Breakwater hosts community fun run

THE Port of Mackay’s southern breakwater will take centre stage when thousands of runners line up for one of the region’s premier community events this weekend.
“As a major sponsor of the Mackay Marina Run, we are thrilled that the breakwater will once again provide the backdrop for this wonderful event,” NQBP General Manager Trade and Operations Brendan Webb said today.
Mr Webb said the landmark will be temporarily closed to the public to allow access for the event to take place.
“As part of the Mackay Marina Run, the Southern Breakwater will be closed from about 11pm Saturday 3 June and will reopen around 11am the next day,” Mr Webb said.
“We are proud to support this community event by providing competitors with access to the breakwater.
“The Mackay Marina Run is close to the heart of the Mackay community and I am pleased we can contribute further to this successful event, by providing the use of one of our assets.“
Mackay Marina Run committee member Chrissy Evangelou said the use of NQBP’s breakwater was a highlight of the event.
“We thank NQBP for closing off the breakwater for the Mackay Marina Run,” Ms Evangelou said.
“The location of our run has to be one of the most beautiful and Mackay should be proud.”
