The Port of Mackay’s Southern Breakwater will take centre stage when thousands of runners line up for one of the region’s premier community events this weekend.
North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr Rochelle Macdonald said NQBP is proud to support the event, which helps raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“As a major sponsor of the Mackay Marina Run, we are thrilled that the breakwater will once again provide the backdrop for this wonderful event,” Dr Rochelle Macdonald said.
“NQBP has been working with event organisers to provide access to the breakwater during current repairs.
“The Mackay Marina Run is close to the heart of the Mackay community and I am pleased we can contribute further to this successful event by providing the use of one of our assets.”
Mackay Marina Run event coordinator Chrissy Evangelou said the use of NQBP’s breakwater was a highlight of the event.
“We thank NQBP for providing access to the breakwater for the Mackay Marina Run,” Ms Evangelou said.
“The location of our run has to be one of the most beautiful and Mackay should be proud.”
Repair works on the Southern Breakwater have been under way since early 2018 and are running to schedule.
Repairs to the Northern and Middle Breakwaters within the port are also progressing well.
NQBP aims to have all the repair works completed by the end of 2018.
