NORTH Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation and North Queensland Cowboys ground-breaking community partnership.
NORTH Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) and the North Queensland Cowboys have kicked off their ground-breaking community partnership with a two-day Bulk Port Blitz in Mackay.
NQBP CEO Nicolas Fertin said the blitz program lead positive changes in the Mackay community through school visits, port site visits and a networking event.
"We're very different organisations, but we both believe when everyone has an opportunity to participate, it's a force for good in our North Queensland Port communities", Mr Fertin said.
"Through our community partnership, Cowboys legend and life member Matthew Bowen connected with Mackay school children through the delivery of important messages on positive life choices. Eimeo Road, Andergrove, Slade Point, Mackay North and Fitzgerald State School students heard from their footy heroes about making the right choices for success - and behaving in ways that display integrity, excellence, unity and respect."
NQBP was also proud to host business and community leaders to celebrate women in leadership on International Women's Day.
More than 70 attendees were inspired by keynote speaker Rochelle Jones' passion for changing lives in her role as head of NRL Cowboys House, looking after the education and wellbeing of 105 Indigenous youth from 28 remote communities. Rochelle was joined at the event by Cowboys legend Matthew Bowen and players Javid Bowen and Kane Bradley.
"Our community partnership with the Cowboys is one of our largest and longest and enables us to make a positive impact on communities throughout the north", Mr Fertin said. "Like the Cowboys, we're passionate about leading positive change in our communities."
At the "even playing field" event, co-hosted by Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce, a signed and framed 2021 Cowboys jersey was presented to The Neighbourhood Hub to help in their future fundraising efforts. After taking a COVID-19 break last year, the Cowboys and NQBP are holding Bulk Port Blitzes in the port communities of Mackay (March), Bowen (May), Weipa (August) and Sarina in 2021.Since it was launched in 2016, the partnership has engaged thousands of school children and community members.
