Bowen school students will learn what it takes to be a North Queensland Cowboy this week thanks to a partnership with North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP).
The renewed “Moving Forward Together” partnership returns to “North Queensland’s oldest town” after a break in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Cowboys life member Matthew Bowen and Mackay-born hooker Reuben Cotter will share their knowledge with Queen’s Beach State School, Bowen State High School, St Mary’s, Bowen State School, and Merinda Primary School during their two-day visit to Bowen.
NQBP Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Fertin said the school visits were part of the Bowen Bulk Ports Blitz (25-26 May) which is conducted annually in partnership with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.
“The school visits are always a hit, with Cowboys players and ambassadors, such as club legend Matthew Bowen, providing some fun outdoor activities while promoting important messaging around positive life choices,” Mr Fertin said.
“Like the Cowboys, we’re passionate about leading positive change in our communities.
“As the port authority for four ports that connect North Queensland to the world and support 28,000 trade jobs, it’s important we give back to the areas in which we operate, so we’re extremely proud to bring the Cowboys Blitz to Bowen.”
Cowboys Chief Executive Officer Jeff Reibel said the visitors were looking forward to visiting Bowen for the Bulk Ports Blitz again.
“We love the support we receive from the Bowen community – we know we have members and fans who travel for our home games and get behind their NRL team," Mr Reibel said.
“The opportunity to visit local schools and engage with the people of Bowen through the blitz is one way we can show our appreciation for their support.
“It’s wonderful to have this annual visit through our community partnership with North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation fast becoming a tradition that we can build on each year."
