As a result, North Queensland Bulk Ports looks for opportunities to partner with organisations that help us to meet our business objectives, as well as deliver long term benefits to the communities in which we operate.

Currently, our business operates across the regions of Hay Point, Mackay, Bowen, and Weipa, with a set amount of funding allocated to each port.

Sponsorship guidelines

It is important that the application for, and allocation of, NQBP funding be an easily understood and open process, where funding is allocated to those areas of the community in which a mutual relationship exists.

Categories of assistance has been prepared to assist you in completing the application form to outline what NQBP is looking for in a partner, and also expectations following the release of funding.

Evaluation criteria

Proposals will be evaluated against general criteria which should be addressed. Criteria has been developed to ensure that NQBP establishes relationships that will mutually benefit NQBP and the receiving organisation.

Proposals are evaluated according to the:

  • Tangible benefits associated with the partnership
  • Opportunity to create long-term value
  • Ability to reach targeted audiences and build relationships
  • Positive exposure for the NQBP brand
  • Potential to be leveraged with additional investment from other business
  • Potential for long-term, sustainable partnership or relationship.

Other additional information

Depending on the nature of your partnership opportunity, there will be other important information you should provide in your application. Please consider the criteria below, and if you haven’t covered it already, please ensure you include the following details where relevant:

  • Overview of your organisation
  • Expected participation numbers (if an event)
  • Relevant market research
  • Endorsements from existing or former sponsors.

Ineligible activities

NQBP is unable to support the following types of activities because they do not meet the criteria set for NQBP’s Port Communities Program:

  • Requests from an individual or family that benefit only that individual or family
  • Local events in areas where NQBP does not operate or impact
  • Religious activities, in whole or in part, for the purpose of furthering religious doctrine
  • General operating expenses
  • Political candidates or political parties
  • Commercial documentation such as feasibility studies or business plans
  • Gambling, smoking or alcohol linked organisations
  • Sponsorships that may be viewed as violent or hazardous
  • Sponsorships that may be viewed as racially prejudiced or discriminatory  to any group
  • Recipients whose business, initiative or event may present a conflict of interest.

Categories of assistance

NQBP has three categories of investment including Community Sponsorship, Community Grants and Sustainable Partnerships.

All initiatives must benefit the wider community. NQBP’s main focus for providing assistance will be supporting the following areas of port community interest which are relevant to its business:

  • Community health and wellbeing
  • Environment
  • Education and training
  • Regional sustainability
  • Culture and community.

Partnership agreement

It should be noted that NQBP’s agreement to sponsor your event or project means that your organisation will agree to the use of NQBP’s logo on your product or at your event as mutually agreed.

In addition, should NQBP’s funding be in the form of an award, it is expected that a representative of NQBP will be invited to attend the ceremony to present the award.

Evaluation process

Applicants must satisfactorily acquit funding received by NQBP within the specified time period according to the requirements stated in the formal letter of approval. Note that failure to do so will result in ineligibility for future funding.
