Dr Natham Waltham

James Cook University's Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) Co-Director and Deputy Director of James Cook University's Marine Data Technology Hub.

Dr Nathan Waltham has 20 years’ experience as a marine habitat scientist, developing an innovative program of marine and coastal habitat research, assessment and monitoring in tropical and sub-tropical Australia.

His area of research specialisation is in estuarine ecology and he leads major projects investigating coastal wetland recovery, resilience and management/policy. He is a Principal Research Scientist for TropWATER, and Deputy Director of Marine Data Technology Hub of James Cook University.

Dr Waltham is responsible for delivering high quality science through the leadership of major projects negotiated and conducted in partnership with government, industry and NGOs.

He is involved in a number of technical and scientific working groups in the Great Barrier Reef catchments and supervisors postgraduate high research degree students.  He has been also responsible for providing scientific support for numerous coastal water quality and habitat projects in the Great Barrier Reef catchments, Torres Straits and Gulf of Carpentaria.
