North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) has completed refurbishment works at Evans Landing Wharf in Weipa.

The facility is open and available for the public to use.

NQBP thanks the Weipa community for their patience during the works, as well as operational users who worked with us to minimise disruption to business.

We also thank Queensland-based contractor Wisely Group for their work to keep the project on budget.

The refurbishment works were undertaken on behalf of Rio Tinto and included:

  • Replacement of the wharf deck (from marine ply to concrete panels)
  • Repair and replacement of steel members
  • Blasting and painting of the steel substructure
  • Replacement of handrails

The $2.6 million refurbishment project, announced by Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey earlier this year, began in August 2018.
