THE Port of Mackay’s Southern Breakwater will provide a scenic backdrop for the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships 10km road walk event this weekend.
The breakwater will be temporarily closed from the early hours of Sunday 1 September until 10am as veteran athletes from 15 countries aim to be the fastest to cross the finish line.
North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) is proud to support the community event and to provide participants with access to the breakwater.
Local organising committee joint chair Jos Grech said the view from the breakwater was a highlight of the event.
“We thank NQBP for allowing us to use the breakwater for the Oceania Masters Athletics Championships,” Mrs Grech said.
“The location of this event has to be one of the most beautiful and Mackay should be proud,” she said.
