North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) is offering engineering university students the chance to earn while they learn through the 2024 Internship Program.
Applications are now open for the paid Port of Mackay-based program, which offers a valuable career-building opportunity to one third-year undergraduate student enrolled in a civil or mechanical engineering degree.
NQBP CEO Brendan Webb said the successful applicant will be able to cement their engineering knowledge by working alongside industry experts.
“There's no substitute for hands-on experience, and our interns get precisely that, learning directly from engineers who've helped shape the port industry for years,” Mr Webb said.
“They’ll also gain insights from our operations and maintenance teams, foster ties with port partners, and work side-by-side with contractors.”
As part of NQBP's ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of industry professionals, the internship program supports students in achieving their career goals.
“Our internship program is an opportunity to learn about the complex engineering systems and operations that keep ports running safely and efficiently,” Mr Webb said.
"The engineering field is highly competitive, and our internship allows you to gain experience in both land and marine development while having a truly unique experience.
“You’ll also finish your degree with established relationships strengthening your employment prospects.”
Emerging engineering professionals are urged to consider the global port industry as a viable and rewarding career path.
“Ports are critical for Australia’s global supply chains with over 98% of international trade going through ports. It’s an industry that opens a world of opportunities for engineers,” Mr Webb said.
“With a wide range of assets to maintain, no day is ever the same. As an engineer, you’ll be gaining a broad spectrum of skills to help you decide what career path you want to take.”
The paid internship program will run from June 2024 to March 2025, with flexibility to these timeframes offered for the right candidate.
