The following information relates to access at NQBP's commercial ports. Access to operational port areas is restricted and may be affected by security requirements, operational activity or weather conditions.

Port of Hay Point

The Port of Hay Point is one of the world's largest coal export terminals, operating around the clock to support global trade. Access to operational areas is restricted to authorised personnel and approved visitors.

Port of Mackay

The Port of Mackay is a multi-commodity port supporting agricultural and mining industries. It is a global gateway for the Central Queensland region. Operational areas are accessible to authorised personnel and approved visitors only.

Port of Abbot Point

The Port of Abbot Point is a key coal export gateway for North Queensland, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Access to port facilities is controlled in accordance with security and operational requirements.

Port of Weipa

The Port of Weipa plays an important role in supporting regional industry, shipping and community connectivity in Cape York. Access to operational areas is restricted to authorised personnel and approved visitors.

Community Assets

NQBP manages a range of community facilities that are enjoyed by locals and visitors throughout the year. Check the latest status before visiting, as access may occasionally be impacted by maintenance, operational activity or weather conditions.

Southern Breakwater

The Southern Breakwater offers a scenic waterfront location popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and sightseers. Visitors are encouraged to follow all signage and safety directions while enjoying the area.

The Bowen Jetty is a popular community destination and is open to the public for recreational use and sightseeing.

Kommo Toera Trail

The Kommo Toera Trail features a one-kilometre elevated boardwalk through diverse coastal habitats, showcasing the natural environment of the area. The trail is open to the public and suitable for visitors of all ages.

Old Mulherin Park

Old Mulherin Park is a family-friendly recreational area featuring playgrounds, picnic facilities, barbecues and public amenities. The park is open to the public and provides a relaxing space to enjoy the Mackay Harbour.

Mt Bassett look out

Mt Bassett Lookout offers panoramic views across the Port of Mackay, harbour precinct and surrounding coastline. The lookout is open to the public and provides a popular destination for views.

Hay Point look out

The Port of Hay Point administration building, located at the top of Horyu Maru Drive, features a public lookout area, where visitors can view both Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and Hay Point Services Coal Terminal.

North Wall Rec Area

The North Wall Recreational Area is a popular destination for walking, fishing, surfing and enjoying the coastal environment. Facilities include shaded picnic tables, beach showers and public toilets during daylight hours. Overnight camping is not permitted.
