THERE’S a packed program of activities to celebrate the Port of Mackay 80th Anniversary at the Maritime Carnival this Sunday.
From 10am to 3pm North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) is bringing Old Mulherin Park alive with fun for the whole family.
Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Fertin said there’s something for everyone from the Mackay and District Pipe Band and the Doo Wop Dolls to the fairy floss and classic cars.
“The day will recreate the initial opening of the port in 1939 with good old-fashioned fun,” Mr Fertin said.
For the car lovers, Mackay’s first car will be on display as well as a prime collection from the Vintage Car Club.
Songstresses the Doo Wop Dolls will perform hits from the 40s, 50s and 60s.
“We will also have live performances from the Mackay Sugar City Rock and Roll Club, FAD Dance, Dance Express, Theatre Arts Mackay Dance Excellence, and roving performers from Sensory Circus,” Mr Fertin said.
Community members will be able to learn more about the port and community groups with displays from NQBP, Sugar Australia, Yuwibara, Volunteer Marine Rescue, Maritime Safety Queensland, Crane Logistics, and the Army and Navy Cadets.
Food vendors including Sarina Sugar Shed, El Papas, Spilt the Beans Mobile Café, Sweet Cakes – Dutch Pofferties, Kool Temptations, Issy’s Wood fired Pizza Café Dumpling Hut Mackay, Mini Melts and Pit Stop Classic Café will be on hand to take orders.
