The Port of Mackay has had a strong start to 2020 with six breakbulk ships arriving in January.
And Höegh Autoliners’ monthly service to Mackay continues to be well received given the port’s strategic location to central Queensland.
Tore Listad, Höegh’s Head of Regional Sales Europe, Middle East, India, Africa and Oceania said there was increased demand in the region.
“Our Mackay service in 2019 was well-received by our customers as it provided a unique opportunity to receive cargo closer to the end markets in North Queensland,” Mr Listad said.
“With the growing investments in this region we are meeting the increased demand for a reliable and monthly service.
“We are working to grow our customer portfolio and are receiving interest across the mining and construction sectors alike.”
North Queensland Bulk Ports CEO Nicolas Fertin said the Port of Mackay is ideally located for businesses to capitalise on trade opportunities as it offers the region’s resource sector a primary link to the rest of the world.
“NQBP is actively pursuing growth opportunities at the Port of Mackay,” Mr Fertin said.
“The development of our ports contributes to a strong growth in our regional Queensland economy.”
