THE Port of Mackay’s iconic Southern Breakwater is set to host the official start line for the 2019 Variety Bash on Wednesday 28 August.
North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Fertin said NQBP is proud to support Variety Bash in raising much needed funds to help Aussie kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have a disability.
“We are excited to be able to host such a special event for our region on the breakwater,” Mr Fertin said.
“The 30th anniversary Variety Bash Queensland will see more than 300 colourful crew members in over 100 pre-1989 vehicles, take on the 3,500km journey from Mackay to the Gold Coast, and the Southern Breakwater is the perfect location for this journey to begin.
“NQBP has been working with event organisers to provide access to the breakwater for the event.”
The breakwater will be closed temporarily from the early hours of Wednesday 28 August until 10am as the cars depart.
Variety QLD Operations Manager Craig Marriott said the view from the breakwater was a highlight of the event.
“We thank NQBP for allowing us to use the breakwater for the 2019 Variety Bash start line, the Mackay region has always welcomed Variety and we are proud to support local kids and families in the area,” Mr Marriott said.
“The location of this launch is one of the most beautiful and Mackay should be proud,” he said.
