The Port of Mackay’s Southern Breakwater will take centre stage when thousands of runners line up for one of the region’s premier community events this weekend.
North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Fertin said the event, which helps raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, was an important event on the corporation’s community calendar.
“In addition to our sponsorship, the Southern Breakwater will once again provide the backdrop for this great community event,” Mr Fertin said.
“The Mackay Marina Run is close to the heart of the Mackay community and I am pleased we can contribute further to this successful event by providing the use of one of our assets.
“This access means the breakwater will be closed from 5pm on Saturday June 1 until after the event is completed on Sunday.”
Mackay Marina Run event coordinator Chrissy Evangelou said the use of NQBP’s breakwater was a highlight for the event.
“We thank NQBP for allowing the breakwater to be available annually as part of the Mackay Marina Run precinct,” Ms Evangelou said.
“The location of our run has to be one of the most beautiful and Mackay should be proud.”
The Mackay Marina Run will start from 6.30am on Sunday June 2 with the NQBP Half Marathon.
